About us

Vin Govindan, Director & Founder

Vin began her career in the funeral industry as a Regional Manager at an ASX Listed funeral company, gaining significant experience as a Sydney funeral director. She managed a number of multicultural funeral homes, earning her reputation among independent funeral directors in Sydney. The funeral industry appealed to Vin after her own personal experience of losing a loved one and views it as a privilege to be able to work in an industry that honour the lives of loved ones passed and care for their grieving families.

Vin was born and raised in Sydney and grew up in a traditional Hindu family, positioning her uniquely as one of the dedicated Hindu funeral directors with deep community ties. As her family was part of the founding members of the first Hindu temple in NSW, Vin grew up with a strong sense of community, tradition and rituals which she now brings to end of life care in her community.

What to do when someone dies

The process and paperwork required when someone dies depends on the place where the death occurred and if they are to be cremated or buried. If death has taken place in a:

If the death was expected, the treating doctor should visit your home and issue a Medical Cause of Death Certificate which your Funeral Director will collect when they arrive to transfer your family member from home to their mortuary. If the death was unexpected, it is possible that the coroner may wish to conduct a post mortem.

It is most likely that the Funeral Director will need to transfer the body to their mortuary as soon as possible. This is because most such facilities do not have refrigeration facilities. It is also why, on admission to a care facility, you may have been asked to provide details of your chosen Funeral Director.

Your Funeral Director will liaise with the hospital for necessary certificates for burial or cremation, in addition to organising transfer from the hospital to their mortuary. These tasks will generally be carried out during normal working hours. The hospital will need to know whether the funeral service will be a burial or cremation so that they can prepare the correct documents.
